The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Tim Burton's film stars Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter with Timothy Spall, Alan Rickman and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp again team up for the big screen version of Sweeney Todd, the musical written by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler. Johnny Depp stars as Benjamin Barker aka Sweeney Todd, in the title role.
Benjamin Barker was a man sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit. He vows revenge - not only for that - but also for what happened to his wife and daughter.
When Sweeney Todd returns and then reopens, his barber shop, he becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who "shaved the heads of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard from again".
Helena Bonham Carter plays the part of Mrs Lovett, Sweeney Todd's meat pie maker. Alan Rickman plays Judge Turpin who sent Todd to prison and Timothy Spall is Beadle Bamford. Sweeney Todd's rival, flamboyant barber Signor Adolfo Pirelli, is played by Sacha Baron Cohen.
