Strop and hone or Mach 3?
Dear Daniel, My question is…
I've just bought a straight razor and leather/canvas strop.
Unfortunately, the blade was not ready/sharp to use, and merely stropping wasn't enough to hone the blade.
Should I resolve to a honing stone, send the blade away to a professional, or just work more on stropping?
I read somewhere that stropping can only have mild honing results, and that if the blade is not adequately honed, stropping won't do the job.

When you buy a cut throat razor it is a big job
1st they are never sharp enough to begin with
2nd you need to strop
3rd you have to put a special cream on each side and leave it to dry for 48 hours
4th you have to use a stone and lubricate it with a special oil,
5th to use the strop and stone you need to use a special angle to sharpen it.
So... leave it to the professionals - it took me years to learn.
My advice is to take it back and buy a Mach 3 Gillette.
