My hair won't lay flat

Dear Daniel, My question is…

When my hair grows from the sides and back it tends to grow straight and will not lay down.

I have tried using wax sticks, putty and gels to try to make it lay down but it does not help.

Do you have any solutions on what I can do to make it lay flat?
