What is RFID

Radio Frequency Identification
and where is it used?

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is set to become an even more widely used technology in product packaging, ticket systems and personal card data.

Moscow Metro carries 8.2 million passengers on a normal working day. RFID inlays are being used for contactless passenger tickets to use on the Moscow Metro. By the end of summer 2007 useage will rise from five million to 30 million inlays per month.

RFID

The RFID inlays will replace the magnetic strips that are currently used for tickets on the Moscow Metro. These tickets will give a fixed number of journeys, season tickets are already using RFID smart cards to allow passengers to begin their journeys much faster.
