Expodition for iPod travellers

A web service for iPod users who love to travel has been launched introducing a new type of content designed for iPods called Pod SnapShots.

Using Expodition travellers planning expeditions to the United Kingdom can download tailormade Pod SnapShot covering the area they'll be visiting to their iPod to view on arrival. Pod SnapShots (PSS) takes its mantle from Podcasts and RSS feeds by delivering individually tailored content to a users iPod.

Visitors to Expodition are able to register then set up a profile of themselves by including favourite food, whether they like visiting museums, night clubs, pubs, wine bars, theatres, cinemas, etc. They can then create a PSS for a specific place by entering a UK postcode. The Pod SnapShot contains relevant information to the individual's user profile. If the user profile says shopping, eating Thai food and dancing are favourite pastimes, then the PSS will include details of Thai restaurants, shopping facilities and nightclubs near their destination.

Can't bear to be without

Pod SnapShots also contain information about the chosen area such as nearby tourist information, transport links, local taxis and mini cabs, hotels, banks, cash points, bureaux de change, eating & drinking, etc.

Rod Cambridge, Expodition founder, says "With Expodition, we wanted to provide a service that works with a device many travellers can't bear to be without. On a recent trip to the US I was surprised by the number of people I saw at the airport using iPods. With Pod SnapShots they can gather first-hand knowledge of their particular destination and amenities/attractions before they even arrive. We hope the service will appeal both to tourists and people living in, and travelling around, the UK."

A PSS Directory on the Expodition website allows tourists and travellers to download Pod SnapShots which they will find useful on their travels, free of charge. These Pod SnapShots contain information such as opening times and entry costs for popular attractions, stores and venues, as well as other information that will help to plan a visit. The directory is growing continuously and also contains a PSS on the London Congestion Charge so visitors to the capital are prepared.

Pod SnapShots work with iPods using the Notes feature, these include iPod mini, nano, photo, video and 3rd generation iPods. Notes are not supported on the iPod Shuffle and older iPods.
